Today, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court in Kochi, Kerala sentenced Islamic State recruiter Yasmin Mohammed Zahir to seven years imprisonment. The woman a native from Bihar was given seven years rigorous imprisonment for recruiting in Kerala for the terror group.
Yasmin is the first to be convicted in a string of cases related to IS links in India. She was accused and found guilty of recruiting 15 people from Kasargod district and sending them to Afghanistan.
In May 2016, the case was registered against Yasmin. She was intercepted by the Kerala police at the Delhi Airport in July 2016. Yasmin was attempting to flee the country to go to Afghanistan with her son.
The Islamic State is recruiting on a dangerous scale here in India. Kerala seems to be the hot spot for the terror group. The State’s police have arrested 21 people involved IS recruitment. Telangana has the second highest with 16 arrests.
