Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi cast his vote for the presidential election, which is underway on the 18th of July, Monday.
Mr. Narendra Modi was among the first ones, who cast vote for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Ms. Draupadi Murmu. Notably, polling to elect the 15th President of India began at around 10:00 A.M., and would continue till 5:00 P.M.
Ms. Draupadi Murmu, the candidate of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Mr. Yashwant Sinha, the candidate representing the United Progressive Alliance (UPA,) are in the fray for the post of the President of India. Approximately 4,800 Members of Parliament (MPs) are to cast their votes to elect the new President. The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of MPs of both Houses of Parliament and MLAs of the states and the Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha and the Assemblies and members of state Legislative Councils, are not part of the electoral college.
The counting of the votes would be held on the 21st of July, whereas the newly elected President of India would take the oath on the 25th of July.
Notably, the term of the outgoing President of India Mr. Ram Nath Kovind is set to end on the 24th of July.
