PM Modi Celebrates Diwali 2020 With Soldiers And BSF Jawans In Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the morning of the 14th of November, took to Twitter and announced to spend Diwali with soldiers and Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer.

Since 2013, Mr. Modi is celebrating Diwali with soldiers and Indian Army officials. This year also Mr. Modi followed his customary tradition and decided to celebrate with the army officials.

The Programme at Longewala, originally a BSF post and a strategic point en route to capturing vast tracts of land and also a pivotal theatre of war in engaging India on the western front during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War.

PM Modi’s visit also comes a day after eleven people including five soldiers were killed in ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in several areas in north Jammu and Kashmir.

Rakesh Asthana, the BSF Director General, Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, Army Chief M.M. Narvane would be with the Prime Minister.

Mr. Modi in his tweet said, “This Diwali, let us also light a Diya as a #Salute2Soldiers who fearlessly protect our nation. Words can’t do justice to the sense of gratitude we have for our soldiers for their exemplary courage. We are also grateful to the families of those on the borders.”

Extending Diwali wishes to people of India, Mr. Modi asked people to celebrate a safe and COVID-19 free Diwali.

Today’s visit of Mr. Modi to jaisalmer would ve the second time this year that PM Modi is interacting with soldiers.

In July, Mr. Modi made a surprise visit to a forward post in Ladakh at the height of a border confrontation with China following a clash on June 14 when 20 soldiers were killed in action at Galwan Valley.
