On the 13th of November, the Telangana Crackers Association (TCA) filed a petition against the ban of firecrackers in Telangana.

According to sources, the TCA challenged the High Court verdict regarding the ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in Telangana.

The TCA filed the petition in the Supreme Court (SC.) The SC heard the petition and allowed the sale of firecrackers accordance with the order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT.) The tribunal has also specified time periods for bursting of crackers – 8pm-10pm on Diwali and Gurupurb, 6am-8am on Chhath, and 11.55pm-12.30am on Christmas and New Year’s Evening.

These rules are applicable for states which have not made their own rules or banned the use of firecrackers.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Government recently issued a Government Order (GO) and banned sale and bursting of firecrackers following the Telangana HC orders.

Indra Prakash, a lawyer of Telangana High Court filed a petition days ahead of Diwali. In the petition, Mr. Prakash demanded a complete ban on firecrackers in the State during festive season, especially Diwali.

Hearing the petition, the HC ordered a complete ban on firecrackers.
