PM Modi Conducts PM-CM Meeting, Discusses COVID-19 Situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 27th of April, conducted a video conference review meeting with the chief ministers of all the states.

The meeting was scheduled a week ahead of the proposed end of the nationwide lockdown.  The nationwide lockdown, which was announced as a precautionary measure to fight the Novel Coronavirus or COVIID-19 is proposed to end on the 3rd of May.

During the meeting, state chief ministers briefed Mr. Modi of the pandemic situation in their respective states and measures taken by the State Government.  The major discussion took place was about the stranded migrant workers and expressed an urge to bring them back amid lockdown.  West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, A.P., CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot appealed to state chief ministers to extend all the necessary help to these workers.

While Tripura, Goa and Manipur governments declared their respective states free from COVID-19, states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat are the worst affected by the virus.

Delhi, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh governments even agreed to an extension in ckdown till the 16th of May.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, asked all the chief ministers to ensure strict implementation of lockdown, as several reports of violations are coming from across India.

The final call regarding the exit plan of the lockdown, extension of the lockdown and other nation wide measures to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus would be taken by the PM Modi led Central Government.

Meanwhile, India crossed 28,000 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 884 deaths.  Till date, India reported a total of 28,074 cases of COVID-19 infection.
