Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for its courage and dedicated service as the force marked its 65th Raising Day on October 24.
In a message on X, Modi greeted ITBP personnel and said their commitment and service continue to inspire the nation.
The ITBP was formed on October 24, 1962. It guards the 3,488-km India-China border, from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.
The force also supports internal security duties and carries out rescue and relief work during natural disasters, especially in the Himalayan region.
Many ITBP border posts stand at heights between 9,000 and 18,800 feet. Personnel work in severe weather, with winter temperatures sometimes falling to minus 45 degrees Celsius.
The force trains its members in mountaineering, skiing and other skills needed for duty in difficult mountain areas.
On its Raising Day, the ITBP also greeted its personnel, their families and all members of its force. It reaffirmed its commitment to serving the country.
