On the 3rd of September, officials of Twitter confirmed, the Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s website and personal application was hacked.
On the 2nd of September, the Twitter handle of PM Modi’s personal website saw a series of tweets, asking money from followers on Twitter as a relief fund donation through cryptocurrency.
After the issue was reported, the tweets asking for fund relief money were taken down.
A spokesperson of Twitter, through an email to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said, “We are actively investigating the situation. At this time, we are not aware of additional accounts being impacted.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s account which has been hacked has nearly 2.5 million followers.
The last tweet by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media on the @narendramodi_in was on the 31st of August.
The tweet was regarding PM Modi’s radio show Mann Ki Baat.
Meanwhile, Mr. Modi’s personal Twitter handle named @narendramodi, with over 61 million followers remained unaffected.
This is not the first time hackers hacked an account of celebrities or famous people.
In July, hackers accessed Twitter’s internal systems to hijack some of the platform’s top voices including the United States President (U.S.) Presidential candidate Joe Biden, former U.S., President Barack Obama and billionaire Elon Musk for soliciting digital currency.
