Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, on the 14th of September, Wednesday, extended a greeting on the occasion of ‘Hindi Diwas.’

Taking to Twitter, Mr. Narendra Modi greeted people and said,its (Hindi) simplicity, spontaneity and sensitivity always attract people.   Mr. Narendra Modi said, “Hindi has brought special honour to India all over the world.  Its simplicity, spontaneity and sensitivity always attract.  On Hindi Diwas, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all those people who have contributed tirelessly in making it prosperous and empowered.” 

The tweet was posted in Hindi which read, “हिन्दी ने विश्वभर में भारत को एक विशिष्ट सम्मान दिलाया है। इसकी सरलता, सहजता और संवेदनशीलता हमेशा आकर्षित करती है। हिन्दी दिवस पर मैं उन सभी लोगों का हृदय से अभिनंदन करता हूं, जिन्होंने इसे समृद्ध और सशक्त बनाने में अपना अथक योगदान दिया है।”

In addition, Mr. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister also shared his views regarding the Hindi language and said, Hindi is a friendly language to all other languages of India.

Mr. Amit Shah expressed his views on Twitter and said, the PM Narendra Modi led Central Government is committed towards the development of Hindi, along with all local languages of India.

Mr. Amit Shah said, “Official language Hindi unites the nation in the thread of unity.  Hindi is a friend of all Indian languages.  Modi’s government is committed for the parallel development of all local languages including Hindi.  I salute the great personalities who have contributed in the preservation and promotion of Hindi.  Happy ‘Hindi Diwas’ to all.”  The tweet was shared in Hindi.

Notably, Mr. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India declared the 14th of September as the National Hindi Diwas.  The decision of using Hindi as an official and first  language of India was legalised by the Constitution of India on the 26th of January 1950.  Hindi was made one of the official languages in order to streamline government operations in a multilingual nation, whereas English was made the second language of the nation.

Furthermore, spoken as a native language, Hindi is popular amongst 258 million people and recognised as the fourth most spoken language in the world.
