Pranab Mukherjee’s State Funeral Held Today, PM Modi, Vice President And Other Paid Tribute

Last rites of Pranab Mukherjee, the former President of India, was held on the 1st of September.

Former President Mr. Mukherjee was laid to rest at Lodhi crematorium with full military honours and state funeral.

Many political leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal, V.P. Naidu, Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu and others paid their last respect to Late Pranab Mukherjee at 10 Rajaji Marg, official residence of Mr. Mukherjee in Delhi.

While Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, recently recovered from post COVID-19 treatment, paid tribute to Ex President of India through video conferencing.

Amit Shah took to Twitter and said, he joined the Union Cabinet meeting via video conferencing in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi today to express profound sorrow on the sad demise of former President of India.

Mr. Mukherjee’s remains were carried in a van instead of gun carriage due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

The Union Defence Ministry officials said, “Due to the requirement of following social distancing norms and other Covid-19 related protocols, the mortal remains of the former President were taken in a hearse van instead of the normal gun carriage.”

His mortal remains were laid at his official residence for final tribute, following which his last rites were performed at Lodhi crematorium.

Abhijit Mukherjee, his son performed the final rites of Pranab Mukherjee at 2:00 P.M.

Meanwhile, the Central Government on the 31st of August, announced seven day state mourning on the demise of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a statement which read, “(The) National Flag will fly at half mast on buildings across India and there will be no official entertainment.”

The flag would fly half mast on the top of the government building from the 31st of August till the 6th of September as a tribute to late Pranab Mukherjee.
