Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress, has been asked to vacate his government bungalow at 12 Tughlak Road, in Delhi.
Days after being disqualified as the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) the Lok Sabha Committee issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi. In the issued notice, Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been asked to vacate his bungalow by the 23rd of April.
Furthermore, The Lok Sabha Housing Committee’s letter requesting Rahul Gandhi to vacate his residence has also been forwarded to the NDMC, responsible for water and electricity in the Central Public Works Department bungalows. The official clarified that they handle civic amenities such as water and electricity supply, not property.
It is to be noted, the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla disqualified Mr. Rahul Gandhi as the Lok Sabha Member, after his conviction in the 2019 Defamation Case. Rahul Gandhi has been pronounced guilty for making derogatory remarks against PM Narendra Modi and has been given two years imprisonment. After the conviction, the Lok Sabha cited the Indian Constitution’s People’s Representative Act, which authorizes the Lok Sabha to disqualify a member, who has been found guilty in an offensive crime.
However, Mr. Rahul Gandhi can request an extension from the Housing Committee, and their decision will be based on the validity of his reasons.
