Sarath Babu, a former railway clerk from Nellore, has saved lives of more than 120 children who had been abandoned in India. He approached the elders of Gollapalem village requesting them to spare a piece of land for experimenting with the idea of rehabilitating the innocents from the railway station. The villagers lent him some land on a temporary basis so he could go ahead with the challenging task.
The process of rehabilitation was so challenging that it was next to impossible when he heard the horrifying and upsetting stories of the innocent ones. It would send shivers down the spine of anyone who would listen to them! From then on Sarath Babu started rescuing children who had been begging and stealing from the platform. On seeing the efforts of Sarath and his team, villagers donated him 4.5 acres of land which is now known as the Child Ashram.
Sarath, also known as “Daddy” to more than 120 children, established an organisation that provides food to abandoned little ones. Among the children he rescued, one works at the National Research Institute as a scientist, another a circle inspector and yet another one who is a professor.
The children from the village and railway platforms are treated with equal respect by the residents of the area. These children are being taken care of and transformed slowly into responsible members of the society.

Every child is assigned to a group. A group has different responsibilities. One takes care of buying vegetables, the other is responsible for teaching other children, washing utensils etc.Today, the ashram is so developed and responsible that, were Sarath is to leave the organisation the children could manage it all by themselves.
