The Shiv Sena rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) moved the Supreme Court and filed a petition against the Deputy Speaker of Maharashtra Mr. Narhari Zirwal.

On the 27th of June, Monday, the Top Court, started the hearing for the petition against the disqualification decision of the MLAs. Notably, Deputy Speaker Mr. Narhari Zirwal issued the disqualification notice to 16 legislators, rejection of the no-confidence motion, and appointed Mr. Ajay Choudhary as the Legislator leader of the Shiv Sena.

However, the Shiv Sena MLAs and current Legislator leader Mr. Eknath Shinde opposed the decision and moved to the Supreme Court.

The SC bench comprising of, Justice Mr. Surya Kant and Mr. JB Pardiwala are reviewing the petition against Assembly Speaker Narhari Zirwal.

The petitioners asked the SC to direct Mr. Narhar Zirwal not to disqualify the 16 rebel MLAs, without a no-confidence vote in the Assembly.

The court is proceeding with the hearing.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi Government is facing political turmoil, after Mr. Eknath Shinde, a senior leader of the Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Cabinet minister were inaccessible.  The MVA is unable to communicate with Mr. Eknath Shinde and 10 other Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) as they are in a five-star hotel in Surat, Gujarat.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra, the State administration imposed section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the Thane region till the 30th of June and in Mumbai till the 14th of July.
