On the 18th of April, Monday, the Supreme Court (SC,) cancelled the bail of Mr. Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri incident. The son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minister Mr. Ajay Mishra, allegedly ran over an SUV on eight people, including four farmers, killing them.
Later, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a probe and found Mr. Ashish Mishra guilty, following which, he was remanded into police custody. However, in February 2022, the Allahabad High Court (HC) granted bail to Mr. Ashish Kumar. The bail came four months after his arrest, which was then challenged in the Top Court.
Reviewing the matter, the Apex Court, cancelled the bail and ordered the Minister’s son to surrender within a week. In addition, the SC also asked the Allahabad High Court to take up the matter afresh.
