On the 2nd of October, a delegation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was stopped at the border of Hathras and Uttar Pradesh.

The delegation headed to meet the family of Hathras victim included senior TMC leader Derek O’Brien.

However, the members were stopped by the Uttar Pradesh Police at the border to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.

A media source ANI, shared a 29 second clip which shows a woman leader of the TMC being physically turned away by a person in civil clothes as O’ Brien comes into the frame.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a member of the TMC said, “He was pushed to the ground. Maybe he is injured too. He was attacked. How can they do it?”

The incident came a day after Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and Priyanka Gandhi, the General Secretary in charge of West Uttar Pradesh INC were detained.

On the 1st of October Mr. Rahul and his sister Priyanka Gandhi were on their way to meet the Hathras victim’s family.

However, the Uttar Pradesh police detained them at Yamuna express under Section 144, which was imposed in Hathras.

Section 144 restricts four or more than 4 people.

However, the Uttar Pradesh police released Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

On the 14th of September, a 19 year old Dalit girl was brutally gang raped by four upper class men.

The incident took place in a village of Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The rape victim died on the 29th of September at Safdarajang Hospital, Delhi.

The incident drew criticism against the UP Government and Delhi Police, after the victim’s body was cremated by police at 3:00 A.M., on the 30th of September. The police without the permission of the victim’s family cremated her body.

Her family alleged the police did not allow them to take the body of the girl and locked them up, when they demanded for the return of her remains.

A video taken by one of the farmers at the spot shows Mr. Gandhi being held back by the policemen.

Meanwhile, the Hathras District Administration announced an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs to the victim’s family.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, on the 30th of September, announced a fastrack Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the gang rape case.

The State Government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked the SIT team to investigate the case and submit a report within 7 days.

The four accused are also under police custody charged with the relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)

The SIT is investigating the matter.
