On Monday, a few farmers of Tamil Nadu staged a protest in front of the Prime Minister Office in New Delhi. The farmers stripped completely in an attempt to grab the attention of the PM Modi. The farmers took this step demanding the waiver of agricultural loans of the small and marginal farmers in the TN state.

The farmers have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar area from past three weeks. They said that if their demands were not heard they will intensify the protests. The farmers protesting naked were removed from the PMO office area by the Police. Last Friday, five farmers, including a woman cut their hands and requested the government to respond to their plea.

The farmers said, “We have been here for over two weeks. Does anyone really care? We have had many politicians come here and promise us their support. What we want is actual action and today we have given this Country and our protest blood and we now have nothing more to give.”

Another farmer said, “We have shed our blood to highlight the miserable condition of the farmers and the inhuman conditions that we are forced to live in. Today, we have given our blood also to the protest. There is nothing more that the government can take away from us. We have nothing else left.’’

The farmers, on Thursday, were shifted to hospital after they suffered heat stroke, followed by dysentery and dehydration. This move has been supported by many national and local leaders.
