On the 2nd of March, a case of sexual assault was reported in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.
This is not the first time, such sexual assault cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh. In 2019, similar to this, a rape and attempt to murder case was reported in Hathras region of Uttar Pradesh.
According to sources, a 17 year old minor girl who was a Dalit was found dead with signs of sexual assault. Her skin peeled away from being dragged through the fields leading to torn clothes and several injuries.
According to the FIR, the victim, a resident of Aligarh, used to live with her grandmother. Usually, she accompanied the old woman to the fields, but on that day, the girl went alone.
According to the complaint, the girl left at around 11:00 A.M., to collect fodder for the goats at home. However, she never returned and later at night, her body was found.
The complaint read, “When she did not return after sunset, her family started looking for her. Later, a local spotted her body in a wheat field. Her clothes were scattered all around and it appeared that she had been sexually assaulted.”
The Aligarh police immediately took action and formed five teams to crack the case. They filed a case under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and detained 12 suspects for questioning. The police have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 376 (rape), 302 (murder) and also under the POCSO Act against an unidentified person.
Though the body was found on the night of the 28th of February, the matter came to light on the 2nd of March.
Aligarh’s senior superintendent of police (SSP) Muniraj G., who is investigating the matter said,“The post mortem report has revealed the cause of death to be strangulation and smothering. External injury marks were found on the victim’s body. Her skin had peeled away. There were nail marks on her body. But a preliminary examination by a team of doctors who conducted the post mortem did not find any internal injury. A forensic report will clear the picture.”
The vaginal and rectal swabs of the girl have been sent for forensic examination and the report is awaited.
The police have launched an investigation and are trying to nab the culprits.
