Today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit the Taj Mahal to be a part of different projects in Agra. The visit comes in the midst of a controversy over the monument to love.
Last week, the BJP’s Sardhana legislator, Sangeet Som criticised the Taj Mahal and stated it was a “blot” on India’s culture and was “built by traitors.”
Adityanath will be in Agra for about 8 hours and will begin the trip by laying the foundation stone for a pro poor development scheme.
The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the tourist walkway from Agra Fort. He will also be a part of a cleanliness campaign at the Western side of the Taj Mahal.
CM Yogi is expected to be at the Taj Mahal for about two hours to watch a presentation about the monument and be a part of a children’s painting competition.
Rajeev Saxena from tourism guild of Agra was quoted saying, “The Chief Minister is likely to provide a momentum to tourism. This visit is highly awaited and a mood of optimism prevails.”
The Taj Mahal is a historic monument of the country that earns crores of rupees annually. But recently, BJP leaders including CM Yogi have been degrading the monument. In June, Adityanath said the 17th century monument did not represent “Indian culture.”
