B.S.Yeddyurappa, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka and form the next Government of Karnataka.
After H.D. Kumaraswamy, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, lost the no confidence motion, the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD[S,]) Government of Karnataka collapsed.
Kumaraswamy resigned from the Chief Minister’s post, paving the way for Yeddyurappa to form the BJP Government in the State.
On the 26th of July, Yeddyurappa met Vajubhai Vala, the Governor of Karnataka and asked the approval for taking the oath of office today.
Minutes after his meeting with the Governor, Mr. Yeddyurappa addressed the media and said he will take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on the 26th of July, at 6:00 P.M.
The decision of the BJP to nominate Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of the State came after K.R. Ramesh Kumar disqualified three rebel Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs.)
Kumar also said he will think about the resignation letters of the remaining 13 MLAs of the JD(S) and the Indian National Congress (INC.)
Now, with the disqualification of the 3 MLAs, the number of MLAs in the State came down to 220, following which, to mark the majority, the BJP will need 110 MLAs in the State.
The Governor also asked the BJP to prove its majority in the State by the 31st of July. This will decide if the BJP can form the next Government of Karnataka or not.
However, the opposition party, the Indian National Congress, criticised the BJP, the Governor and Yeddyurappa after the announcement of the oath taking ceremony.
Siddaramiah, the Legislative Party Chief of the INC, took to Twitter and criticised the move and called Karnataka an experiment lab.
He said, “Karnataka assembly has become an experimental lab for @BJP4Karnataka & BJP backed governor to try unconstitutional ways to form govt. In what article of the constitution is the governor allowed to permit the party to form govt that doesn’t have majority?”
It is also noted, Yeddyurappa changed his name to B.S. Yediyurappa, especially to become the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
B.S. Yeddyurappa, in his letter to the Governor of Karnataka, mentioned the old spelling of his name.
B.S. Yediyurappa will take oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka at 6:00 P.M., at Vidhana Soudha, Karnataka.
