P.V. Sindhu, is a name familiar to everyone in the Country. The girl is our Nation’s pride and also is an inspiration to millions of girls not only in India but also all around the World. She was the first woman from India to win a Silver medal at the Olympics at the Rio Olympics 2016. The badminton player has given a silver lining to dream of making it big on the international platform.
The 2nd Indian Woman to make it to the top five in badminton is apparently not enough for politicians to recognize her. At the 5k run organized near Charminar, Hyderabad, the MLA of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, changed the sport of shuttle altogether and referred to Sindhu as a volleyball player! The Minister along with the Deputy CM Mahmood Ali was thanking the dignitaries on the dais. Speaking there, the MLA said, “We are thankful to P.V. Sindhu, the Volleyball player who has represented Hyderabad on an international platform”. This reference created confusion as Sindhu’s parents are volleyball players and Sindhu is a renowned Shuttler.
Sindhu, who was visibly shaken, took the matter light-heartedly and chose not to disturb his speech. This shows how indifferent our political leaders can be to the success of women in sports and also to the sports persons while they bring glory to our Nation.
