The seventh year of the FIFA The Best awards, which have been given out since 2016, has just ended. Lionel Messi receives the Best Player for Men while Beth Mead received the counterpart.
Throughout Argentina’s successful World Cup campaign, Messi put on a number of mesmerising performances. The brilliant number 10 was Argentina’s talisman in Qatar, contributing three assists and scoring seven goals, including a brace in that historic final victory against France. Teammates frequently credited his inspiring leadership as a key element in their achievement. When Messi won the Golden Ball award for the greatest player in the competition, it highlighted his motivational power.
Lionel Scaloni led Argentina to the World Cup and was honoured alongside his beloved custodian Emiliano Martinez. Cristiano Ronaldo surprisingly did not feature in the FIFPRO World XI. Marcin Oleksy won the Puskas Award.
