Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM,) criticised the Central Government for the management of the Novel Coronavirus situation in India.

On the 8th of June, during a press meet, Mr. Owaisi said, “Don’t keep hopes on Modi ji that he will save you from the virus.  Clapping hands or lighting diyas will not avoid the spread.  The Government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completely failed in controlling the coronavirus situation.”

Highlighting the condition of the migrants and their deaths on board the Shramik Express, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “Who is responsible for 85 labourers who died in the trains?  All of them belonged to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs,) Scheduled Tribes.

A journalist died recently. Who will talk about them? The government only talks about an elephant (Karnataka elephant.)  The Government is only interested in managing headlines.”

He said the Central Government started to transport stranded migrants a month after the nationwide lockdown was announced, when after a month they lifted the lockdown.

Questioning the role of the lockdown announced by the Modi Government in curbing the spread of the Novel Coronavirus infection, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “The lockdown was unconstitutional and unplanned. It was imposed by the Modi government at a time when only around 500 people had contracted the virus.  Now there are lakhs of people affected.”

Asaduddin Owaisi said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government is responsible for not handling the situation and the pandemic crisis, due to which as of now, India is close to record 3 lakh cases.

On the 8th of June, after the mosque opened for prayers, Asaduddin Owasisi advised people to follow social distancing norms and curb COVID-19.  He said,  “No person aged above 65 years or children less than 12 years should enter the mosques. People can pray wearing masks. No water for ablution and toilets in mosques should be provided. People can fulfil the necessity at their houses and then start for prayers. Social distancing must be maintained in the mosques, carpets should be removed and people are requested to carry their own carpets or cloth to worship.”

The Telangana Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) allowed opening of shopping malls, restaurants and religious places under Unlock 1.0., from the 8th of June.
