Hyderabad: In a surprising turn of events, BRS MLA Kadyam Srihari and his daughter Kavya joined the Congress party, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of Hyderabad. The move comes amidst preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and has sent shockwaves through the BRS party.
The announcement was made at a gathering where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and party state affairs in-charge Deepadas Munshi extended a warm welcome to the father-daughter duo, presenting them with scarves symbolizing their entry into the Congress fold.
Kavya’s decision to join Congress comes after her recent nomination for the BRS Warangal Lok Sabha ticket. She declined citing concerns over allegations of corruption, land grabs, phone tapping, and a liquor scandal that have plagued the party in recent days, tarnishing its reputation.
In her letter addressed to KCR, Kavya expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of coordination and cooperation among party leaders in the district, highlighting the internal strife within the BRS. This discontent seemingly paved the way for their defection to the Congress camp.
In a parallel development, GHMC Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi also joined the Congress on Saturday, accompanied by her father, Rajya Sabha member K. Kesha Rao, who hinted at his imminent switch to the party ranks.
