The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC,) on the 13th of April, asked the domestic electricity customers to pay their March electricity bill as per 2019 March bill.
The TSERC took the decision in the wake of the extended lockdown, which is proposed to end on the 3rd of May.
The TSERC said due to the current situation, bill collectors were unable to go to houses and take the current meter readings to update the electricity bills in Telangana. Hence, the domestic users are advised to pay the amount of 2019 March months’ bills as the 2020 March bill.
Meanwhile, for industries and factories, which are shut due to the Nationwide lockdown, they were asked to pay the half amount of the March 2019 bill. The TSERC directed Telangana Discoms to act upon the issued directions and work accordingly. Telangana Discoms as per the directions of the TSERC would send the details regarding the payment to the domestic users on their registered mobile numbers and would update the payment accordingly.
However, this is said to be a temporary arrangement, as once the lockdown ends, the bill collectors would take the readings, based on which they would issue bills. The fluctuation in amounts (the amount paid according to the March bill) paid would be adjusted in the next bills.
The Nationwide lockdown which was initially scheduled to end on the 14th of April, would now continue till the 3rd of May.
