The Hyderabad metros are scheduled to resume operations from the 7th of September.

After the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 and first lockdown from the 24th of March 2020, metro services across the City was suspended

However, five months after being out of services, the metros would finally start operations in a phased manner.

N.V.S. Reddy, the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL,) spoke about the working pattern and said, “Enough care will be taken to follow proper sanitisation, maintain social distancing in metro trains & stations, enough ventilation, pumping more fresh air into trains, improving air conditioning mechanism, etc.”

The decision of the HMRL came after the Union Government allowed metro resumption under the Unlock 4.0., which began from the 1st of September.

On the 3rd of September, Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, conducted a meeting and approved the functioning of metros.

In regard to this Somesh Kumar issued orders permitting operations of the world’s largest metro project in a “graded manner.”

In addition, as per the Unlock 4.0., guidelines, from the 21st of September, a limited number of teaching and non teaching staff would also be called to schools outside containment zones.

Senior students of classes 9 to 12 would be allowed to visit their classrooms. Higher educational institutions would also be permitted to open for research scholars (Ph.D.) students.

Besides this, post graduate students of technical and professional programmes who would require laboratory for experimental work would be allowed.

Other places which would start operations post the 21st of September are: congregations for social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, and political functions with only 100 persons.

Participation of people at wedding ceremonies (50) and funerals (20) would also increase to 100 after the 21st of September.

Regarding reopening of bars and clubs, the Telangana Government is yet to take a decision.
