Telangana Cabinet Approves Special Food Processing Zones In Telangana, Constitutes Sub Committee

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 14th of July, conducted a meeting over the decisions taken during the recently held Cabinet meeting.

KCR, the President of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chaired the meeting, which was attended by State ministers. During the meeting, the TRS Cabinet approved the Telangana Food Processing units across the State. With this, the proposal to set up special food processing units would come to reality in a couple of years.

According to sources, the Cabinet instructed that Paddy procured should be milled as part of the food processing and supplied to where the demand is high. The decision to give priority to rice mills was given in the wake of the rising paddy production in the State.

After approving the food processing unit, the State Cabinet constituted a sub committee under the chairmanship of the Telangana Agriculture Minister S. Niranjan Reddy. Ministers like Gangula Kamalakar, T. Harish Rao, K.T. Rama Rao, Indrakaran Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Sabita Indrareddy, Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Jagadeeshwar Reddy would be members of the sub committee. The committee would discuss the functioning of the food processing units.

In regard to this, the TRS Government decided to allocate Rs. 26,000 per acre in the first year, Rs. 5,000 per acre in the second year and third years as an input financial incentive and subsidy.

The special food processing zones would be established in nine districts of Telangana, based on the crop cultivated in the respective areas. The Cabinet has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that Telangana Special Food Processing Zones are set up in not less than 500 acres upto 1,000 acres and by 2024-2025. In addition, Statewide Food Processing Zones should be set up in 10,000 acres of land in different regions, except Hyderabad.
