Telangana Government officials, on the 28th of October, decided to release water from the Srisailam Dam to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.

The decision to do so came after 1,71,794 cusecs of water from Jura, Hadrineeva and Sunkesula entered the Srisailam Dam, causing the water to cross the maximum level.

The officials opened two radial gates of the Srisailam Dam and 55,874 cusecs of water was discharged to the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.

Apart from this, another 69,012 cusecs of water was added in the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam after production at two powerhouses.  As of now, 1,24,886 cusecs of water is left in the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. 

On the evening of the 28th of October, the Srisailam Dam was filled with 213.8824 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water. 

The water level in the Srisailam Dam reached 884.70 feet, while that in the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is 589.50 feet. 

The step was taken to avoid floods in Srisailam, as the water level exceeded the maximum.
