In the wake of the ongoing heavy rainfall in Hyderabad, the Telangana Health Department ordered a fever survey.

On the 28th of September, the Telangana Public Health and Family Welfare issued orders to conduct the fever survey owing to water stagnation due to heavy rains.  Water stagnation is a major cause of Dengue and Malaria as mosquitoes thrive surrounding water logged areas.  This happens mostly during Monsoon season or heavy rainfall for days, as water logging, potholes are seen due to rainfall..

Dr. G Srinivasa Rao, the Public Health Director of Telangana, passed the order.  He further added that considering the current situation, no medical officer would be allowed to permit any leave to his/her staff without permission from the higher authority.

The Telangana Health Department also directed staff to take all the necessary precautions and preventive measures to control viral fevers and vector borne diseases.  The Health Department asked to conduct mandatory fever surveys at regular intervals and set up health camps in fever affected areas.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is taking extra care, due to the rain.  It is to be noted, September and October are peak times for Dengue and viral fever, causing health issues amongst people, especially children.  Amid the ongoing Wuhan virus (COVID-19) pandemic, there is fear of a rise in Dengue cases, due to which the orders of regular fever surveys have been issued.

There are currently more than 500 cases of Dengue fever in Telangana.  If proper precautions are not taken, the number of cases could touch 700 mark till December.

Stay tuned for further updates.
