Netizens of Telangana raised their voices against the fact that Amber Lake in Nizampet has turned into a dump yard, due to the absolute negligence of the concerned government authority.

The residents near Amber Lake pointed out the situation of the lake, which once upon a time was home to birds and beautiful species, has now become an area of mosquitoes, pigs and stray dogs.  Furthermore, due to the ignorance of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Nizampet Civic Body, for not considering the fact that Amber Lake is being used a garbage dump, ruining its beauty.  According to sources, the lake was earlier spread over 200 acres, but half of the lake has encroached.

The matter came into light after people took to the micro blogging site Twitter and tagged the concerned authority and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Minister Mr. K.T. Rama Rao.

A netizen Mr. B. Srinivas tweeted,” Why are the citizens in this area are being neglected by the State government and left to the mercy of God?  As Nizampet is located in the catchment area of Amber Lake, sewage from households is let into the lake, as there is no basic sewage system.  The complete lake has turned into a cesspool due to the negligence of the concerned officials.  It has become a threat to the locals.”

Another concern is that local butchers near the lake are processing meat and dumping waste in it.  This foul smell is emanating causing trouble to the locals and residents near Amber Lake.

Sai Teja, a local resident said, “We cannot even open doors in the evening, as an unbearable foul smell emanates from the lake.  It is hard for the locals to reside here.  The main problem of the water body not developing is that we don’t know whom to complain.  If we complain to GHMC officials they tell us that the lake does not fall under their jurisdiction.  The same reply is given by the Nizampet Municipal staff.”

The major reason behind the negligence towards Amber Lake’s maintenance is the confusion regarding the jurisdiction.  Both, the GHMC and the Nizamapet Civic Body say that the lake does not fall under their jurisdiction.

The concerned authority and Mr. K.T. Rama Rao is yet to respond to the concerns of people, residing near Amber Lake.
