Mr. A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC,) was arrested by the Telangana Police, on the 2nd of January, Monday.
The arrest was in order to prevent him from participating in a dharna, organised by the TPCC at Dharna Chowk, Hyderabad, against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS.)
According to sources, Mr. A. Revanth Reddy was taken to a nearby police station after the a house arrest. Reacting to the move of the State Police, the TPCC questioned the police officials and addressed the media. Mr. A. Revanth Reddy said, “The police have every authority to arrest him if he was found at the Dharna Chowk as planned by the party but they don’t have any rights to arrest him or prevent him from performing his duties.” He further said to the police that he was on his way to the TPCC secretariat to inspect some work, and not about dharna.
Mr. A. Revanth Reddy called this arrest illegal and said that he is also a public representative like Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, and doesn’t have to inform police about his duties.
