The Telangana police, on the night of the 12th of August, requested Telangana’s citizens not to post any inappropriate or derogatory posts on the social media.
The tweet of the Director General of police (DGP) M. Mahender Reddy came after the violent Bengaluru riot.
On the 11th of August, a violent clash took place in east Bengaluru City.
The news of three deaths and injured police officials was also reported and confirmed by the Bengaluru Police. The police in a statement said they had resorted to using batons, tear gas and opening fire to bring the situation under control.
The reason behind the violent clash was an alleged derogatory social media post by the Indian National Congress (INC) leader’s relative. The message posted was allegedly offensive to Islam and its beliefs. More cops were deployed in the area following directions from the Home Minister, Basavaraj Bommai
In regard to this incident, the Telangana Police issued a circulation, which read, “Dear citizens, as you are aware a malicious social media post had led to mindless violence in Bangalore City resulting in loss of life and properties. Public are requested not to post/circulate any inappropriate content in social media which is likely to adversely affect public order and peace h the society.”
Te issued circulation further read, Telangana Police are closely watching round the clock for unsocial elements circulating such malicious content in social media. All the SHOs and senior officers have been instructed (to) register specific cases in every such instance and initiate strong and strict action against such offenders without fail. I request (the) public to partner with police to maintain (a)highest standard of safety and security in Telangana.”
