Telangana Sanitary Workers Protest Over 20 Months’ Pending Salaries

Sanitary workers and scavengers from police stations across Telangana staged a protest at the Secretariat on Tuesday, demanding payment of their pending salaries for 20 months.

The workers said around 4,500 people across the State are affected. They work at different police stations and are paid a minimum monthly salary of Rs 5,200.

The workers alleged that their salaries have not been paid for the past 20 months. They said they have repeatedly approached officials, but the issue remains unresolved.

The workers also said they had met Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, seeking payment of their dues.

Nearly 150 workers came to the Secretariat on Tuesday and wanted to meet Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. However, they were informed that he was in New Delhi.

The workers then sought to meet Home Secretary Shikha Goel and submit their appeal for clearing the pending salaries.
