Telangana – Two More Trains Leave With Migrant Workers

On the 6th of May, the Telangana Government flagged off two more trains with migrant workers amid the nationwide lockdown.

The special Shramik Express trains started from Bibi Nagar railway station carrying 1,200 workers on each train.   The trains departed in the early hours of the 6th of May.  On the night of the 5th of May, the workers were brought to the railway station maintaining the social distance.  According to the concerned officials the migrant workers were happy to be going back home especially by the arrangements made by the State Government.   Anitha Ramchandran, the District Collector of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, supervised the arrangements by the officials.

A team of 50 Medical staff were also present at the station and conducted thermal screening of the migrant workers before their departure.

This is the 4th train run by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government starting on the 1st of May.   The State Government decided to run 40 Shramik Express trains for the migrant workers till the 11th of May.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana said, trains carrying migrant workers are scheduled to leave for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan.  However, information like timing and the station is confidential to avoid chaos of people at Telangana railway stations.

Mr. Rao said, “I wanted to send 40 trains but we need the consent from the3 concerned states.” 

The trains which left for Bihar in the past two days, would carry migrant workers from Bihar to Telangana.  Approximately 20,000 to 25,000 workers from Telangana are stranded in Bihar.  One Shramik Express would bring back 1,200 workers at a time.

The trains would be operated till the 11th of May, amid the ongoing lockdown, which has been extended till the 29th of May in Telangana.
