The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) filed a petition in the Telangana High Court (HC,) on the 2nd of May.
The TPCC objected to the rejection of Osmania University for a public meeting of Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) at the OU campus. In the petition, the TPCC sought permission for Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with the OU students at the campus. The petition also mentioned that the interaction would not be political but focus on the facilities and education of the students at Osmania University.
It is to be noted, earlier the Telangana High Court passed an order that no political activities would be allowed inside the OU campus. Despite following the orders of the HC and mentioning that Mr. Rahul Gandhi would not have any political activity, the OU authority rejected the TPCC’s proposal to hold a public meeting in the campus.
After the rejection, tension prevailed in the State, following which the National Student Union of India (NSUI) leaders staged a protest and was arrested by the State Police. Mr. A. Revanth Reddy, the President of the TPCC condemned the arrested of NSUI members and visited Chanchalguda jail to meet the student leaders including Mr. Balamuru Venkat.
Meanwhile, heavy security has been beefed up at the OU campus amid the ongoing chaos due to Mr. Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Telangana.
It is to be noted that Mr. Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Telangana on the 6th of May. The visit is in view of the upcoming Rythu Sangharshana public meeting. The public meeting of the TPCC on the 6th of May is said to be a huge event, organised with the participation of the National INC leaders in Telangana’s Warangal district.
