The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on the 29th of October, distributed cheques worth Rs. 6.3 lakhs each to the families of those who were killed in the Devipatnam boat mishap in Andhra Pradesh.
Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Ch. Malla Reddy and Dasyam Vinaybhaskar, the Chief Whip of the Government, distributed the cheques to the families of the 5 labourers from Warangal district, Telangana.
The deceased labourers were identified as Gorre Ramadevi, Baske Renuka, Baske Lalitha, Kommula Pushpa and Konduru Kousalya. The labourers were registered with the Telangana State Labour department. As per the norms of the Telangana State Labour Department, their families would receive Rs. 1.3 lakhs from the State Government. In addition, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, announced an ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakhs.
Apart from the TRS Government, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) also announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs each to the families of the 12 Telangana residents who died in the accident.
Approximately 73 passengers died in the Andhra Pradesh boat mishap. Out of the 73, 12 passengers were residents of Telangana. On the 26th of October, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) deposited Rs. 1.2 crores in the account of the TRS Government for the families of the victims.
On the 15th of September, a boat named Royal Vasishta capsized, taking the lives of approximately 38 people. There were 73 passengers on the boat, where 38 died and 25 survived and were rescued by the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Rescue Force (NDRF.) Ten bodies were missing, out of which, 7 were recovered.
