From the 29th of May, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government began a vaccination drive for high risk groups.

The newly formed high risk groups include workers of LPG agencies, people at petrol bunks, grocery store shopkeepers, journalists, street vendors, fertilizer shopkeepers, delivery boys, cab drivers, auto rickshaw drivers, and others. The special drive to vaccinate high risk categorised people was launched by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government. Under the special drive initiative, the State Medical Department would vaccinate approximately 7,80,000 people against the Wuhan virus.

The initiative is a measure taken by the TRS Government to curtail the spread of the Wuhan virus also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

With this, Telangana becomes the first State to focus on such high potential spreaders of COVID-19 virus, due to their jobs. It is to be noted, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, gave a similar suggestion to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one of the virtual meetings held over the COVID-19 situation.

In the next few days, the district collectors and the Medical Department would work and vaccinate these high risk groups. For this purpose, the concerned officials established several vaccination centres at school premises and government hospitals. Of the total, 32 vaccination centres would operate in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, vaccinating approximately 30,000 people in a day. Nearly 1.4 lakh people would be vaccinated in 3 days.

The new special drive would be supervised by the Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar. He said the special vaccination centres would start at 8:00 A.M., daily.

Meanwhile, as of now, Telangana has 6.18 hundred thousand doses of Covisheild and 2.5 hundred thousand doses of COVAXIN. In addition, the State is expected to receive another 3,35,000 doses of Covishield and 2,50,000 doses of COVAXIN in the first week of June.
