The Telangana High Court (HC) on the 5th of June, reviewed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding the condition of weavers in the State.
Rangaiah, the counsel of the petitioner filed a PIL regarding the hardships of the weavers. In the petition, it was informed how the products weaved by the weavers community are lying with them, as neither the State Government nor the cooperative societies are buying their products.
The bench of the High Court judges headed by Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Bollam Vijaysen Reddy.
The Court directed the Telangana Government to submit a detailed report regarding the situation of weavers in the State.
The HC bench of judges directed Advocate General Banda Shivananda Prasad, who is representing the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to submit the report.
The report would include details like number of weavers functioning in Telangana, their stay, number of cooperative societies protecting their interest and welfare, schemes launched for them, financial schemes for weavers and other helps.
The weavers in Telangana suffered a loss financially due to the 2 months nationwide lockdown in the wake of the pandemic crisis, the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
The Court also directed the State Government to pay the weavers by the 10th of June and submit a report regarding the same before the next hearing.
The next hearing is scheduled on the 12th of June.
