On the 13th of February, the ongoing Budget Parliament session passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Amendment Ordinance 2021.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, tabled the bill in the Lok Sabha, which was passed with majority votes.
The Indian National Congress (INC) leaders like Adhir R. Chowdhury, Manish Tewari and Amar Singh along with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Saugata Roy and other Members of Parliament (MPs) disapproved of the ordinance and moved a resolution regarding the same.
Meanwhile the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and union ministers like Rajnath Singh, Narendra Singh Tomar, Smriti Irani, T.C. Gehlot, Kiren Rijiju, Harsh Vardhan and Prahalad Singh Patel supported the new ordinance.
Taking a jab at Manish Tewari, a senior leader of the INC, the Union Home Minister said, “Manish bhai (Manish Tewari), recall Congress days. Thousands killed, curfew imposed for days. Adjudge the situation on (the) basis of data. Peace in Kashmir is a big thing. I don’t want to recall the days of unrest. Such days won’t be there (J&K) again as it’s our Govt now.”
Government allocation for minority affairs increased in Budget 2021-2022. For minority affairs, Rs. 4,811 crores was allocated in total which is a 8.6%> increase. For Scheduled Castes, Rs. 83,257 crores in 2020-21 budget and it has increased to Rs. 1,26,259 crores in BE 2021-22. For the Scheduled Tribes ₹53,653 crores in budget 2020-21 and it has been increased to Rs. 79,942 crores .
Meanwhile, speaking about statehood, Amit Shah said, the Union Territory would get statehood at an appropriate time.
The approved and passed Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2021,would help in the development of the UT.
Meanwhile, in the Rajya Sabha, the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2021 was passed on the 8th of February and was tabled in Lok Sabha today.
Though both the houses passed the bill, it would be an act after the assent of the President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind.
