Telangana Graduate MLC Elections: Chief Electoral Officer Reviews Arrangements

On the 12th of March, the Chief Electoral Officer Shashank Goel reviewed arrangements for the Graduate Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) elections in Telangana. 

Mr. Shashank Goel conducted a meeting with the concerned officials. The meeting was attended by Ranga Reddy District Collector Amoy Kumar, Additional Collector Pratik Jain, Additional Collector in charge Tirupati Rao, District Revenue Officer (DRO) Haripriya and other concerned police officials. According to the Electoral Officer, the arrangements were made following all the protocols of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

In addition, ballot boxes were being moved from the distribution centres to the polling centres on the 12th of March. According to the sources, Mahabubnagar-Ranga Reddy-Hyderabad would have 799 polling stations with 5,31,236 voter counting centers. The counting would be held in Saroor Nagar indoor stadium.

Meanwhile, the SEC received nearly 40 complaints regarding polling stations. Acting upon those complaints, the State Election Commission would set up webcasting in a few polling stations. The SEC also organised huge security measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the elections.

The SEC also urged people to cooperate for this MLC election and take all possible precautions in the view of the COVID-19. The elections for Graduate MLC posts would begin from 8:00 A.M., till 4:00 P.M., on the 14th of March.

As many as 179 candidates have filed nominations for Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar seat and 78 candidates for Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency.

The two Teacher’s MLC posts are important, as the winning graduate MLC would cover 75 of the 119 assemblies.

The results of the MLC elections would be announced on the 17th of March.
