The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government is scheduled to conduct a Cabinet meeting with the high power committee constituted to study the G.N. Rao Committee’s recommendation.
On the 6th of January, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., would chair the meeting to discuss the reports submitted by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) committee and the G.N. Rao Committee.
The reports regarding the State having 3 capitals and the development of the capitals and Andhra Pradesh was submitted on the 3rd of January.
The matter would also be tabled during the Cabinet meeting of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) scheduled on the 8th of January.
As of now, only the BCG committee and the G.N. Rao Committee submitted their reports regarding the proposal of having 3 State capitals and their development. The high power committee, comprising 16 members, is yet to submit its report to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The high power committee was asked to submit its report by the 26th of January, 2020.
After this committee submits its report, the State Government would take a final call on the proposal. On the 27th of January, the YSRCP would conduct a special Assembly session and make a decision about the matter.
On the other hand, the farmers of Amaravati’s 29 villages are protesting against the YSRCP Government for its unrealistic proposal of having 3 State capitals, with a demand to withdraw the proposal.
The YSRCP proposed Andhra Pradesh have 3 State capitals—Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Kurnool. While Kurnool and Visakhapatnam would be the judiciary and executive capitals respectively, Amaravati would be the legislative capital.
