Cherukupalli: A major tragedy was averted when a college bus carrying nursing students caught fire on the national highway at Gudavalli in Cherukupalli mandal, Bapatla district. The bus, belonging to Raypalle IRF Educational Institutions, was completely gutted due to an apparent electrical short circuit.

The incident occurred while the students were on their way to Guntur for exams. Alert students noticed smoke emanating from the vehicle and quickly evacuated, preventing any injuries or casualties.

Locals at the scene responded swiftly by using water to control the fire until Raypalle fire services arrived. The fire brigade successfully extinguished the blaze, but the bus was completely destroyed in the incident.

The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical malfunction, and further investigations are underway. Authorities have commended the quick thinking of the students and locals, which helped avert a major disaster.

This incident has raised concerns over the maintenance and safety of vehicles used for student transportation. Officials are urged to conduct regular checks to ensure such incidents are avoided in the future.
