Amaravati: Uncertainty looms over whether 10th class public exams in government schools will be conducted in Telugu medium, leaving principals and students puzzled. The ambiguity stems from unclear guidelines on the medium of instruction, with school authorities urging the Education Department for clarity.
The initial shift to a single medium began under the Vaikapa government, with orders issued in December 2021 mandating English as the sole medium. This directive followed an earlier decision in 2020-21 to phase out Telugu medium from classes 1-6, which faced legal challenges. The High Court overturned this, but the government appealed to the Supreme Court, which has yet to issue a stay.
Meanwhile, schools have implemented English medium unofficially, adjusting teacher allocations based on student numbers. However, due to a lack of specificity in the 2021 order, many schools continued bilingual instruction in both Telugu and English, creating confusion. Now, with students nearing 10th grade exams, headmasters are requesting exams in Telugu medium for consistency.
Some officials argue that adhering to the single-medium directive is necessary, questioning the feasibility of conducting exams in both languages. Principals and educators are hopeful that the government will soon provide a definitive resolution to ensure clarity.
