Nellore: Former Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has strongly criticized the coalition government for raising power charges, accusing it of going back on its election promise. He also warned of a second round of hikes in the near future.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Kakani blamed former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for the current crisis in the power sector. He claimed that under Naidu’s rule from 2014-19, the state had to purchase power at an average cost of Rs. 5.10 per unit, placing an undue financial burden on the public. In contrast, Kakani praised the power agreement made by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, which he said would save the state Rs. 1.10 lakh crore in the long run.
Kakani also pointed out that Naidu’s tenure had resulted in a staggering Rs. 90,000 crore burden on the people and left DISCOMs with a debt of Rs. 86,215 crore by 2019. He further accused Naidu of using his friendly media to downplay his misdeeds, including not implementing the “Super Six” welfare schemes and raising prices of essential commodities and liquor.
The former minister also highlighted internal political disputes within the coalition, particularly in Rayalaseema, where rivalries between leaders like Adinaryana Reddy and JC have surfaced, further indicating poor governance.
