Nellore: Former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy has vocally condemned MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy’s recent assault on a security guard at Krishnapatnam Port, calling it a shameful and unprecedented act in the history of Andhra Pradesh. Speaking to the media in Nellore, Kakani expressed his deep disappointment, emphasizing the potential negative impact of such behavior on the state’s investment climate.

Kakani explained that Somireddy’s actions were fueled by frustration over a failed deal with port management, accusing him of resorting to intimidation tactics. According to Kakani, Somireddy visited Krishnapatnam Port accompanied by his entourage but was the only one granted entry, excluding others, including media personnel. After being advised to address the media later, Somireddy allegedly exited his car and physically assaulted a security guard, an act Kakani deemed disgraceful and without precedent.

In addition to condemning the assault, Kakani criticized the government’s ongoing privatization efforts, particularly the recent decision to privatize three ports, suggesting it benefits select individuals at the expense of public assets. He raised concerns about how such incidents might deter potential investors from viewing Andhra Pradesh as a reliable investment destination. Kakani also recalled the previous administration’s initiatives to support port construction and warned against repeating past mistakes of privatizing public sector entities.
