K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, on the 6th of July, conducted a meeting over the ongoing Krishna water dispute.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) President KCR said the State Government would fight for the Krishna water. He said, they would not compromise, protecting the interest of farmers of Telangana, farm sector and share of Krishna River. Criticising the Andhra Pradesh Government, KCR said, the attitude of the Andhra Pradesh Government on the Krishna River water sharing is harming Telangana farmers’ interests.

During the meeting, held on Tuesday, the State Cabinet decided to get the state’s rightful share of the allocation of water and to continue hydel power generation. The hydel power generation by the Telangana Government is being conducted to run a lift irrigation scheme, helping the farmers of the State.

The Cabinet also decided to raise the issue in the upcoming Monsoon Parliament session and seek intervention of the Central Government. The State Government also said, if needed they would take the matter to the High Court or Supreme Court (SC.)

The dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is continuing over the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation work. The illegal construction and projects on the banks of the Krishna and the Godavari rivers by the Telangana Government and the Andhra Pradesh Government is a long pending matter. The matter intensified with a war of words between Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led Andhra Pradesh Government and K. Chandrashekar Rao led Telangana Government. Both the state governments sought intervention and alleged each other of misusing Krishna River water.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s meeting was attended by State minister V. Srinivas Goud, the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, the Chief Secretary of Telangana Somesh Kumar, the CM’s Principal Secretary S. Narsing Rao, the Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar, the CM’s Secretaries Smita Sabharwal, Bhoopal Reddy, the Engineer-in-Chief of Irrigation Projects Muralidhar Rao, the Advocate General B.S. Prasad and others participated in the meeting.
