VSP Privatisation Issue Continues, TDP Leaders Call For Mass Resignation To Protest

The ongoing issue of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) privatisation increased a war of words among political leaders.

Recently, the Central Government announced disinvestment in VSP and privatisation of the Steel Plant. The announcement created a political ruckus in Andhra Pradesh, leading to criticism against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government.

Recently, on the 9th of March, the Andhra Pradesh TDP President Atchannaidu called for the resignation of the public representatives, especially MPs, to extend support to the Visakha Steel Plant protest.

The TDP leaders also criticised Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., for not taking a stand against the Government of India (GoI) and VSP Privatisation. The Party also alleged the YSRCP of being involved with the Central Government in the decision of VSP privatisation and betraying the people of A.P.

Tekkali TDP MLA Mr. Atchannaidu also assured that the TDP would not field a candidate against these MPs in the upcoming election.

The YSRCP member and the Advisor to the Government (Public Affairs), Government of Andhra Pradesh, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, expressed disappointment over the resignation call. He said the resignation is not the correct decision to protest against the VSP Privatisation.

He said CM Jagan and his Government have much clarity and awareness of what to do in various steps. In the wake of it, Mr. Jagan even wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his appointment. The letter also mentioned about the ongoing VSP privatisation issue and asked to reconsider their decision.

The Central Government and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is yet to respond to the letter.

Stay tuned for further updates.
