A mosque in Hyderabad was turned into a 40 bed isolation centre for the victims of the Wuhan virus also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) 

Masjid e Muhammadi, a mosque in Hyderabad’s Rajendranagar area and a building attached to it is now a COVID-19 centre with 40 beds for the Wuhan virus infected people. A voluntary organisation named Helping Hands turned the mosque into an isolation centre with the help of a donation of Rs. 75 lakhs. Besides, Helping Hands Rotary Trust, the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan and the Support for Educational and Economic Development (SEED) organisations also joined hands to run the mosque turned COVID-19 centre for the next six months for the economically weaker section (EWS.)

Syed Mazhar Hussaini, the Executive Director of the SEED said, they wanted to provide space for an asymptomatic to moderate COVID-19 victim. The main agenda behind this was to provide facilities particularly to the people from the economically weaker sections, who cannot afford treatment expenses and lack the adequate quarantine facilities at home.

As of now, the spacious two storeyed building has ventilators, oxygen beds and other requirements for the Wuhan virus victims. The centre, which is functional from the 24th of May, has a staff of 50 members working in three shifts of 6 hours. The staff include four doctors, four nurses, four bedside caregivers, a physiotherapist and a dietician. The team of 50 medical staff is being led by Dr. P. Shafi, an Internal Medicine specialist of the Department of Cardiology. In addition, the building has separate pharmacy rooms, rooms for doctors and medical staff, restrooms for men and women on both the floors.

The services of the new COVID-19 centre would be available free of cost, 24×7 for the Wuhan virus affected people across Hyderabad.
