The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in India reported a dip in cases for the second consecutive day. On the 11th of May, India recorded 3,29,942 new COVID-19 cases. In addition to new cases, the Nation reported along 3,876 deaths and 3,56,082 recoveries in the past 24 hours.
The updated figure was confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on the morning of the 11th of May.
According to the updated data, India has 22,662,575 total positive cases, of which 19,027,304 are recovered/discharged cases, 37,15,221 are active cases and 2,49,992 deceased cases.

Meanwhile, a total of 17,27,10,066 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 till date, across the Country.
Of all the Indian states and Union Territories (UTs,) Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are the worst COVID-19 hit regions.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) classified the B-1617 variant of COVID-19, which was first found in India, as the ‘variant of concern.’ Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, COVID-19 Technical Lead at the WHO, on the 10th of May, announced the B.1.617 virus variant a global concern.
Dr. Maria said, “We know about it in terms of transmissibility and any studies that are being done in India as well as in other countries where this virus is circulating. In consultation with our virus evolution working group, and our Epi teams and our lab teams internally, there is some available information to suggest increased transmissibility of B-1617… as such we are classifying this as a variant of concern at the global level.”
It is to be noted, India is the second worst COVID-19 hit nation in the world. The first nation is the United States of America (U.S.A.)
