India Wuhan Virus Update: Reports 18,454 New Cases With 160 Death Cases Due To COVID-19

On the 21st of October, Thursday, India recorded a surge in the new Wuhan virus, also known as the  Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)  Compared to the previous day, the number of cases increased with 18,454 new infections, which is 26 % higher than yesterday.  On the 20th of October, India reported 14,623 cases of the Wuhan virus.

Besides the 18,454 new cases, the nation recorded 160 fatalities  and 17,561 recoveries.  The new cases were confirmed by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday morning.  According to the Union Health Ministry data, the total cases of the Wuhan virus reached 3,41,27,450, of the total 1,78,831 are active cases, 3,34,95,808 are recovered/discharged cases and 4,52,811 are deceased cases till date.   

The cases were confirmed after conducting a total of 13,23,702 sample tests, taking the number  of COVID-19 tests to 59,44,29,890 in India.   

The updated figures of the Wuhan virus are available on the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.)  According to the MoHFW data, Kerala is the state with the maximum number of active cases and with no better situation. 

In the past 24 hours, Kerala added 11,150 fresh Wuhan virus cases and 82 deaths.  With this, the total caseload is at 48,79,790 and the total fatalities at 27,084. The number of people who recovered from the infection in the past 24 hours were 8,592, which brought the total recoveries to 47,69,373 and the number of active cases to 83,333.

After Kerala, Maharashtra is the State with the maximum number of COVID-19 active cases at 25,728.

In addition, the national recovery rate of the Wuhan virus improved to 98.15 %, fatality rate is at 1.33% and active cases of COVID-19 are at 0.53%.  India’s COVID-19 situation is improving with the precautions and measure taken by the Union and the state governments.  People’s contribution, who are following the COVID-19 appropriate behavior is also a major reason behind the new Wuhan virus cases being below 20,000.  Active cases are also in check with under 2,00,000.    

On the other hand, today, the 21st of October, India crossed the 1 billion milestone and administered 100 crore COVID-19 doses to people of India.  The vaccines were given under the nationwide vaccination drive.  With the same speed, the Government of India is aiming to administer COVID-19 vaccines to eligible people above the age of 18, in India by the end of December. 

Meanwhile, the Central Government has provided 102 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses to various states and union territories (UTs) so far.  As of now, more than 10.20 crore doses of COVID-19 doses are available with the Indian states and UTs.
