In the wake of the constant rising number of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases, the Telangana Government extended night curfew.

On the 30th of April, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) issued a notification and extended the night curfew till the 8th of May. The decision came after the Telangana High Court (HC) expressed dissatisfaction over the steps taken by the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government for COVID-19 situation. The first night curfew was imposed on the 20th of April and was in effect till the 30th of April.

The HC also questioned why the State Government is not extending night curfew, when there are more than 6,000 fresh COVID-19 cases. During the Court hearing over the COVID-19 situation, the HC asked the Government to take a call within 45 minutes. If not, the HC itself would take a decision regarding the same.

Responding to the Court’s orders, the Government’s counsel said, the TRS extended the night curfew for another week in the State

The hearing concluded with a strict warning for the TRS Government. The Court asked the State Government to take strict measures to contain the virus.

With this, the COVID-19 matter was adjourned till the next hearing, scheduled on the 5th of May.

The night curfew would begin from 9:00 P.M., till 5:00 A.M., the next day. All non essential services, cinemas, restaurants, clubs and shops should be closed by 8:00 P.M.

However, essential services like hospitals, labs and chemist shops are exempted from the imposed curfew.

Electronic media, print media, delivery of e goods, gas cylinders, petrol pumps and other services like security providers, power generation providers, water suppliers and sanitation staff would be functional amid the imposed curfew.

In addition, staff working with the allowed service provider agencies, doctors, medical staff, patients, people travelling to airport/railway stations with valid tickets, government officials and others would be allowed amid curfew.

Meanwhile, as of now Telangana has 77,727 active cases including 7,646 new cases, reported in the past 24 hours.
