The Telangana High Court (HC) on the 29th of April, reviewed the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 situation in Telangana.

An unemployed youth of Telangana J. Shankar, recently filed a petition in the Telangana HC regarding the appointment of Telangana Chairman, for the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC.) During the court hearing, the HC bench asked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) GovernmentTelangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government to appoint the Chairman for the TSPSC. The appointment should be made within the next four weeks to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Telangana.

Angry over the current scenario of COVID-19, the HC asked the TRS Government to submit a detailed report of the current situation. The Court also asked the K. Chandrashekar RaoK. Chandrashekar Rao led the Government to submit a detailed report over the appointment of the Chairman and members of the committee.

The Court also warned to shut TSPSC down if the Government fails to appoint the Chairman of the TSPSC in the given time specified. In March, the State Government appointed Chintha Sailu as new interim chairman of TSPSC after the acting chairman Krishna Reddy’s tenure concluded. Since then, Chintha Sailu was the only member in the TSPSC. The appointment of a full fledged Chairman of the TSPSC is due in March 2021.

Meanwhile, the HC also lashed out at State Election Commission (SEC) for issuing notification of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) electionGreater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) election for the 30th of April.

The High Court, expressed dissatisfaction and wanted to know whether it was the elections or the people’s lives that were more important. The bench wanted to know if the SEC officials were living on earth or in the sky.

The Court also asked the SEC officials to appear before the court as the explanation that they had submitted was not complete in all respects. It asked why the SEC issued notification in April when the COVID-19 second wave was rising in February itself.

The next hearing regarding the matter is scheduled on the 17th of June.
